EIT in a Double-Lambda System

Four-level atomic model of electromagnetically induced transparency in Rb vapor

Summary

Derived and validated a four-level density matrix model for EIT in the D1 line of Rb, showing key deviations from the standard three-level approximation.

Challenge

Standard three-level EIT models fail for alkali D1 transitions where two excited states are within Doppler width.

Contribution

Derived analytical susceptibility with Doppler broadening; compared four-level vs. three-level predictions against experiment.

Outcome

Four-level model matched experiment; showed complete transparency is impossible in D1 EIT — a practically important constraint.
